What do you do when you’re in a funk?

Do you ever experience a funk? A period of time where you just feel down, over it, sad and like you can’t see a way out?

I do. Sometimes they last weeks or even months. This is how I get back on track.

When I am experiencing a funk, I forgive myself, remind myself it is natural and that perhaps what I need is to give myself some time to rest without guilt.

Without guilt is important. Feeling guilty about every little thing has been a theme in my life personally and being entrepreneurial, it’s also easy to feel guilty if we don’t think we’re getting lots done all the time.

When I feel ready to take action, I declutter the area around me for a fresh start feeling. Then I try to prioritise one task per day that can generate revenue or help me to feel like I am getting momentum back in some positive way.

I go back to my habits that I know help me – eating clean, drinking plenty of water, exercising, writing down what I’m grateful for. The Five Minute Journal really helps with this. I especially love its prompt – What are three things I can do to make today great?

This helps me decide what I can do that is in my control and then I keep that in mind as I proceed with my day. Planting those thoughts in my mind at the start of the day has it sit in my subconscious mind, gives me something to come back to if I feel stuck and also some self accountability.

If I’m not having a great day I can revisit that and check if I am doing what I said I would to make it great. If not? It’s time to do those things!

That’s my experience. What about you? What do you do to get out of a funk?
