Set the tone going forward

by | Jan 12, 2022

When I started my first business 10 years ago, I was scared of what people thought and a chronic people pleaser.

I thought a business had to be “professional,” which I interpreted to be polite and polished.

This might sound good but it wasn’t because as I grew as a person and got braver with what I wanted to say, it shocked some of my audience. It created more of what I feared in the first place when people got a different version of me to what they signed up for.

I don’t want that to happen again. I want to be my true self and attract clients who can relate to her, not some polished pretentious version of her.

Some of my coaching clients are now at the start of building their online presence and posting for the first time. They sometimes feel they’ve got to filter who they are to stay safe for now and that they might show more of who they are later.

It’s like adopting a dog teaching it one set of rules then doing a rug pull and expecting it to know totally different ones.

So I’m trying to be more and more of myself even if it means people unfollow me because I said “fuck,” or because I show my weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Or, you know, my ass on the pole and majestic calves.

Because it’s the people who say, “wow, she can do this and so can I,” that I’m here for, not the others.

It’s up to you to set the tone of your brand and make obvious who you want in your circle. Do it from today.
